Convocation 2023 was held in the magnificent auditorium of BITS Pilani, K K Birla Goa on Sunday, 20th August 2023 at its campus in Zuarinagar.
Prof. Sanghamitra Bandyopadhyay, Director, Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata and Padma Shri awardee was the Chief Guest while Hon’ble Governor of West Bengal, Dr. C.V. Ananda Bose, was the Guest of Honor at the convocation. Convocation was held in august presence of Prof. V Ramgopal Rao, Vice-Chancellor, BITS Pilani; Prof. Suman Kundu, Director, BITS Pilani, K K Birla Goa Campus; Col S Chakraborty (Retd), Registrar; and other dignitaries from BITS Pilani.
In her address, Prof. Bandyopadhyay highlighted that education is the most potent weapon that can change the world, is something that the students will take along with them and use it to make a difference. She stated that India can truly flourish when its science and technology flourishes, when the research that its scientists carry out not only expands the frontiers of knowledge, but is also used to solve the problems facing the nation and the world. India has achieved quite a bit, but still, miles to go. In this journey, BITS Pilani is playing an important role.
Hon’ble Governor congratulated BITS Pilani and emphasized that BITS Pilani is a pioneer, a pathbreaker and a trend setter where ideation, innovation and implementation is the key to transformation. He stated that BITS has carved out a special niche for itself in the young minds. This holistic development of the man and his mind is what has come to be known as the BITSian ethos. BITS teaches the youth who come there that the pursuit of excellence is your duty, its attainment your goal.
In his report, Prof. Rao counted the achievements of BITS Pilani’s talented students and faculty members spread across all campuses and various collaborations with reputed institutes in India and abroad. In his advice to the graduating students, Vice Chancellor stressed on the importance of staying hungry and staying foolish as what Steve Jobs said and continuously learning.
Prof. Kundu highlighted the significant achievements of the faculty members and students of K K Birla Goa Campus in his report. He underlined the contributions of its faculty and students in seeking research fundings, undertaking research publications, internationalization, etc. Prof. Kundu congratulated the graduating students and wished them best in their future endeavors.
The medal winners from the Bachelor’s degree programs include: Mr. R Ramanathan (Gold Medal), Mr. Varun Singh and Ms. Asmita Limaye (Silver Medals) and Mr. Chirag Goyle (Bronze Medal). This year 1254 students were declared eligible to receive their degree, of which 26 were Doctoral degree, 132 were ME, and 1096 were BE and MSc. Around 75% of the students received their degree in person at this convocation while the remaining students were dispatched their degrees to them.
